I&#8217;m not aware of any research on this, but I have experienced the same thing myself and have seen the same result in <b>many</b> of my students. I am a violist, just for more context. I especially find this to be the case with neurodivergent musicians (especially those who are autistic and/or ADHD) and I&#8217;m convinced that it has something to do with sensory overstimulation when playing without earplugs. Even if the musician isn&#8217;t feeling overstimulated, cutting down on the auditory information coming in seems to be really helpful. That&#8217;s my theory, anyway! 🙂</p>
